The Sous Chef is responsible to enhance the overall Resident experience by assisting the Executive Chef through the provision of exceptional oversight and culinary training to kitchen employees. This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch® professional, friendly, courteous, helpful and timely manner, resulting in a very high level of satisfaction for Residents and their guests. This position is under the general guidance of the Executive Chef in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures, practices, and philosophies.


Essential Functions:

  • Participate in Start Sterling! line up each day.
  • Greet the Residents, guests, fellow employees and vendors in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Assist Executive Chef with supervising and coordinating culinary activities for all dining venues: Bistro, Casual, Formal, Luminations® memory care, and Club Room, as well as, special events and private functions.
  • Uphold and education kitchen staff on established techniques of food presentation and food quality standards.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to all kitchen staff.
  • Standardize production of recipes to ensure quality offerings to the Residents at all times.
  • Develop and select recipes including offerings for various health related issues.
  • Promote healthy dining options in accordance with Company standards and special diet needs in accordance with State regulations.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained in good working order at all times.
  • Ensure kitchen is always safe and sanitary and in compliance with local and state regulatory requirements.

 

Education:

  • College or Culinary School Degree, required.
  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from Culinary school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Experience:

  • Three or more years in Food and Beverage, country club, fine dining, restaurant or senior living hospitality experience.
  • Scratch cooking experience, required.
  • Sauté and broiler experience, preferred.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • ServeSafe certification, preferred.

 

Schedule:

  • Full-Time Hours
  • Must be able to work rotation weekends.
